Jurong Bird Park, Singapore

Recognize this blue bird? No it’s not the ‘Blu’ from Rio. The beautiful blue bird you see in the film is now unfortunately extinct. That was a Spix’s Macaw. The one in the picture here is just as beautiful. The royal blue Hyacinth Macaw is the largest bird of the parrot family. From the top of it’s head to the tip of it’s long lustrous tail, it would measure as tall as an average four year old child. It’s native to South America and and if not given dedicated care it will quickly disappear from the face of our plane. Perhaps that’s why it is more likely to be seen in zoos than in the wild.

Jurong Bird Park, Singapore is home to various such fascinating birds. Visiting there would certainly worth every penny you spend at the entrance ticket counter( $20 per adult).

Jurong Bird Park has a tram ride for a quick overview of the park but the real fun is to trek through the carefully created habitat for the birds. On a lighter note, you can even dig some dirt to find fossils for a photo op!

SOUTH KOREA: My Favourite Destination

Quite a few factors play a vital role in deciding an ideal destination to visit. It could be the scenery, the people, the culture or even the monuments. I stumbled upon such a place rich in all these making it my favourite destination – South Korea.

South Korea was not how I really imagined it to be. I thought the experience would be nothing out of the ordinary. I was dumbstruck after having experienced its beauty. To begin with I loved the temperature. It is extremely cold at certain times of the year. The feeling of the of the chilly wind blowing across my face, a shiver running through my spine while viewing the aesthetic scenery is something that took me to a whole new world. The weather itself makes this East Asian nation wonderful. Besides the weather, the food is just great. Walking down the street is troubling with my mouth watering from the aroma of all the delicious delicacies. The mix of spiciness, sweetness and saltiness makes it stand out of the ordinary. The bibimbap, the signature dish of South Korea is one such extraordinary snack.

What fascinated me the most was the city of Seoul at night. An array of brightly lit colours lined up the streets. There was literally no darkness.

It was amazing.

Glancing at the city from the Namsam Tower filled me with awe. The lighted city is just beautiful. In addition to this beauty a light music is played throughout the night. Is it not just romantic? Apart from this, there are countless tourist places to visit. The architecture of buildings and parks is dazzling. The vibrant Korean pop music with the culturally enriched folk village and the National Park makes it a place churned with a completely different atmosphere filled with breath-taking tourist attractions. South Korea is a balanced country which is proud of its cultural past and innovative future. Making it my most favourite destination and the most special for me is having the worlds fastest internet connection speed. Something I didn’t believe the first time I heard so but it is true. That is the best. The nation is well advanced in technology as well as innovation making it a Global Leader in this field. Technology is something that has always intrigued me. Finally having to arrive at a place flowing with technological innovation has made me fall in love.

The scenic beauty, the chilly weather, the mesmerizing tourist attractions, the mouth-watering food, the cultural past and the hospitality received from the people made it my most favorite and ideal destination to visit. I promise it won’t be a trip you will regret in the end.

Travel Pointers

Hey guys Im back with some new tips for you. This time I have come up with travel tips. When you are in a new country, it’s best to think like a local. Drop tourist guides and take time to explore!

Photo by Caio Queiroz on Pexels.com
  • Move around in the available public transportation. Most cities have buses and taxis, but some developed cities like Singapore have great metro rain connectivity. You can get anywhere in no time.
Photo by Andrew Neel on Pexels.com
  • Go walking. It’s a great way to explore any place up close. Walk through local markets. It’s a great way to understand the people, what they eat, what they wear, and so forth. Talking to shopkeepers are fun as well as enlightening.

  • Don’t be afraid to try local cuisine no matter how new you are to it. It’s quite possible that you won’t like it but you may also do too and want to add to your menu back home.

  • Go street market shopping. Learn to bargain. You may sometimes end up getting quite surprised.

Well, that’s it. Make new friends. Stop doing what everyone does. While it’s quite useful to research on travelogues, do your own thing too.

China

China is a captivating country, with immemorial cultures and a rich history. It is also known for its massive population that’s around 1.3 billion making it the most populated country in the world. Traveling to China with my friends is one of the best experience I have had.

Few of the famous things in China are :

  • Noddles
  • Martial arts
  • Great Wall of China

We have gone to 2 cities in China, one is Beijing and Shanghai. Here are few of the places we went in Beijing.

Science and Technology Museum

Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City

Tiananmen Square is a city square in the centre of Beijing, China and Forbidden City is a palace complex in central Beijing, China.

Silk Factory

There are a lot of silk factories around Beijing, but the one we went to was in : Minzuyuan Rd, Chaoyang Qu, Beijing Shi, China.

Great Wall Of China

One of the seven wonders of the world.

Well, there was a lot of walking to do in very hot conditions. We went in June which probably was not the best time to visit. However, what’s important is that the trip was worth every effort.

If you are planning a visit to China, make sure you buy a local sim card for your phone or use the wifi while at the hotel. There are some heavy restrictions on the kind of internet we are used to. Most people use Wechat, a chinese messaging app. For more info on this check out here . Let me know if you found this useful.

The Cave Temple

This temple is located in Dambulla, a large town, situated at Matale District in the north-east of Columbo. The most famous place to visit in Dambulla is the “Cave Temple”. There are a lot of stairs to climb, to reach the cave temple which is like is on top of a mountain. Inside there are a lot of statues of Lord Buddha varying from different sizes. There is a lot of Sinhala art, sculptures and a few inscriptions. This rock temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site. On top of the mountain, the ambience is amazing. And If you guys visit temples in Sri Lanka, its best you carry a Lungi or just don’t wear shorts.

Sigiriya

This ancient rock fortress located in Matale district near the town of Dambulla. Below the rock, there are a lot of gardens, reservoirs, greenery and statues. This rock is nearly 200 metres high. It is best if people who have Acrophobia don’t climb this rock. To climb this 200 metres rock you need to climb a long line of steep stairs to reach on top. At the time when I was climbing, it felt like the stairs would never end. On reaching the very top of the mountain though is just worth taking all the effort. The view on top of the mountain is just splendid, it felt like I was just somewhere else. Atop were ruins of a fort and ancient pools. This is also one of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Lanka Thilaka

This is an ancient buddhist temple situated in Udunuwara of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Even though this is a buddhist temple there are a few Hindu god statues. Even the temple has a South Indian structure.

The Brass plate is from an antique shop. The fisherman and the secret box is bought from a wood carving shop. Both the shops are next to Lanka Thilaka Temple.

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

This Buddhist temple is located in Kandy. This temple houses the sacred tooth of Lord Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is also a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple. The temple has a beautiful structure with white walls. the temple has a lot of stored remains of the ancient times, paintings, beautiful interior and exterior decorations and more. There are a few areas where taking photos is prohibited. The tooth is only displayed 3 times a day at different timings. But sadly we couldn’t go see it since we were all tired and we needed some rest.

Nuwara Eliya

  • Go to lake Gregory
  • Visit a tea factory
  • Visit Bale Bazaar
  • Enjoy a stroll in Victoria Park

There are a lot more to do in Nuwara Eliya. But the main thing we did there was sit and relax at the hotel.

Ella

It’s a beautiful place and one look at you will fall in love with this place. It has a lot greenery with free roaming monkeys around. This place is filled tourists due to popular attraction know as Adam’s Peak. A lot of people go for trekking here. But we didn’t get to go there since my little sister could easily get tired. Then went to Ravana Falls. It is one of the biggest waterfalls in Sri Lanka.

Yala

It is mainly famous for its National Park. There are lot of animals in the park.

Mirissa

This town is located on the south coast of Sri Lanka. It’s were all sea lovers come to surf, swim, sunbath or do other activities. This place is popular to many European people who maybe surf crazy or love to relax on the sunny beach. One of the activities we did was whale watching. We go some wonderful pictures of blue whale and dolphins.

The main thing I liked to do in Sri Lanka was to roam in different shops looking at different things which the shopkeepers were selling and compared to the country I come from, Sri Lanka is far more easier to do shopping while many items are sold in the cheapest price.

If you haven’t come to Sri Lanka then you must make sure to visit there. I can guarantee you this place is worth seeing.

The lovely backwaters of KERALA

Having to live in a home, where you step out right onto a waterfront, where you need a boat to transport you from one place to the other instead of a car, is environmentally friendly of course, but also a uniquely enjoyable experience.

Waterfront Home
Man rowing boat

Alapuzha in Kerala is a beautiful haven. Its landscape is synonymous with glassy and still backwaters, that snakes between homes making it a destination similar to Venice.

Singapore Museums

Our school took us to Singapore last June. I had a not so good very old Lumix camera with me. For some reason, my mom thought it was not a good idea to let me take anything “expensive”. She decided I could have the camera nobody wanted. Hmm! However, I was thankful for it, at least something is better than nothing right?

The Singapore National Museum and the Ancient Civilization Museum was simply great. We in Oman don’t have anything like it here. Although I clicked away many random pictures, I would like to share with you a few that struck a chord with me. Maybe you will have something to say about my cool pictures!
